Book Riot wrote an article on writing sex scenes, LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX SCENES IN FICTION, BABY , after The Million’s wrote an article, from 2016, Let’s Not Get It On: The Indefensible Sex Scene, resurfaced on Twitter.

I was honestly fascinated by all of the perspectives shared in both articles, even though I don’t agree 100% with either article. I personally don’t put a whole lot of stock in a sex scene when reading, although there are some that turn me on more than others do.

What I want from sex scenes greatly varies, sometimes I read the first scene and then skim the rest, because I don’t want to miss them professing their love for one another, because this is a thing and it has happened before.

Sometimes, I am just in the mood for a sexy as hell read and I need ALL the sex in a book. In fact, I read one book by an author and said there was too much sex for me, but then I read the next book and I loved the amount of sex in it. Well, turns out… that second book had MORE sex than the book I complained about the sex in.

Basically what I’m trying to tell you is that sex in books is going to vary from person to person and time to time.

Now, there are times when I have to roll my eyes, because a woman had eight orgasms in one night or the couple will make tick marks to try to best themselves for the amount of orgasms handed out in one night.

Does this make want to stop reading the author or trash their sex scenes? Hell no!  It’s often used as a form of humor or it’s just sexy as all get out!

Now, all that being said, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite sex scenes from romance books! I’m going to warn you now, some of these sex scenes aren’t for the faint of heart. They range from sweet to a little rough and dirty.

Out of Bounds by R.S. Grey

Out of bounds is a about a gymnast and her coach.  They shouldn’t be together and he tries to scare her off a bit and see how far she is willing to go by bringing in another female and they proceed to have a threesome in a yoga studio.

This was the first FFM threesome I ever read and it was hot as sin! The taboo and forbidden aspects make this one book you do NOT want to read in public.

“Erik’s hands were all over me, burning my skin as Kira’s soft lips played with my head. The sensations were so opposite. Erik’s hands were strong and calloused; he took what he wanted, gripping my body like it was his to own. Kira’s touch was tentative and sweet, so fucking soft I couldn’t help begging for more.”

Sweatpants Season by Danielle Allen is a must read if you are looking for a provocative enemies/co-workers to lovers novel with sexually charged banter!

Sweatpants Season by Danielle Allen

One thing that I think EVERY woman fantasizes about is having sex against the wall. Just fueled by pure desire, where everything is just pulsing around you and you are so frenzied that you need to be take right then and there.

Danielle nailed that in Sweatpants Season, these two were like a force and when they finally, FINALLY come together it’s raw and visceral, and delicious.

“‘I want you inside me-’ Before I could finish, he crashed his lips into mine. I gasped as he pushed me against the wall, kissing me hard. His soft lips moved over mine, overpowering me, overwhelming me. When his tongue grazed mine, I moaned into his mouth. I lost myself in that kiss, in the moment. It was magic in its purest form and my panties were soaked with it.”

Fisher’s Light by Tara Sivec

Fisher’s Light is a little heavier and more emotional than the other two so far, but that doesn’t take away from it’s sex appeal in the least.  Fisher suffers from PTSD when he comes home from the war, and that fuels this sex scene.

It’s a little on the rough side, but getting to see Fisher drop his facade for a few moments in time is beautiful and provocative.

“I arch my back and tilt my hips to meet each of his thrusts and pull him in deeper. I remove one my hands from the wall and push it between my legs, sliding my fingers around where we’re joined and bringing the wetness up to circle my clit. Bracing my feet against the floor so I don’t fall to the ground with the force of him fucking me, I rub my clit with the tips of my fingers”

Dead of Night by Emily Goodwin

Dead of Night was my first foray into vampire romance that wasn’t cozy, so I wasn’t sure at time if I was turned on of freaked out when he was uh… lapping up the blood he sucked out of her.  Vampires and witches are forbidden to be in relationships so that packed a punch for me, I love forbidden romance!

“He moves his head back, holding my leg up so blood drips down my thigh. I feel it slowly rolling down, and my heart hammers even faster. I know what he’s waiting for, and the second the blood drips to my core, he dives back down, licking and sucking at me with fury.

I gasp, rocking my hips up and pushing to him. He eats me out, tongue like magic as it lashes my clit. He takes his mouth off me, turning his head and drinking more of my blood through the bit in my thigh.”
